PET INSURANCE
Pet owners lovingly refer to their animals as fur babies and just like any child, they can be quite expensive. Vet visits, shots, medications, and the occasional “WHAT ARE YOU EATING” heart attack- all of these and more come with being a fur-baby’s parent. But just like with all things we care about, we want to make sure that they are cared for well and looked after – so why not insure them, just like you would your home, car, or human family? This is where pet insurance comes in.
WHAT IS PET INSURANCE?
Pet insurance provides protection for your pet by making sure that you don’t have to choose between their next vet visit and your other bills. Pet insurance will reimburse you up to 90% of your vet bills, covering the visit, medication, and other costs. It also provides you with a 24/7 vet-advice hotline, which gives you access to licensed vets when you need to make any calls concerning your pet’s health, medications, and anything else you may need to know.
HOW DOES PET INSURANCE WORK?
Pet insurance is paid into monthly, providing you with a selection of plans and their premiums. The plans will have different coverages and limits, and will outline your deductible, reimbursement rate, and annual limit. Pet insurance pays YOU rather than a vet, which allows you to work with any vet you choose, rather than having to worry about “in-network” clinics. All you do is pay the vet bill, submit your claim to your insurance company, and get reimbursed for your expenses based on the reimbursement rate you choose. Your provider may need a medical history of your pet from your vet or receipts from the vet appointment, so be sure to save all of your paperwork.

DO I QUALIFY FOR PET INSURANCE?
If you own a pet, you qualify. Common pets like dogs and cats are covered, and so are exotic animals – for bird, rabbit, reptile, or other exotic animals, you would enroll in an “Avian & Exotic Pet Plan”! This can be done easily by calling 888-899-4874.
WHEN SHOULD I BUY PET INSURANCE?
Sooner is always better than later, especially since it will not cover preexisting conditions. 30% of all pets need an emergency treatment at some point in their lifetime and most people buy pet insurance within 6 months of adopting in order to be prepared for any issues in the future.
HOW MUCH DOES PET INSURANCE COST?
That depends on the age, weight, and breed of your pet. Some breeds are more prone to illness than others, and of course older pets or more overweight pets will require more medical attention. When you provide these details during your quote process, your rate will be generated based on these factors. A range of plans will be provided, ranging in cost and coverages, which will allow you to choose a plan that works best for you. Of course, the best way to ensure the cheapest rate is to enroll as soon as possible so that you are protected while your pet is younger and healthier.
